The scotsman was in perth.
The bethel speaker was a Bro Gilles
i was at the one day assembly at the weekend - we are the clay, jehovah is the potter.. this was the first assembly i have been at as a "thinking" person.. one of the talks mentioned how the world can "prime" our minds.
he said - people just follow what they hear, do not question it, believe anything.. and i thought - hmm, i am surrounded by people like that!!.
a young sister i know was up for baptism - when she stood up to say yes to the couple of questions i just wanted to shout "dont do it".

((( So there was no "new light" at this assembly? )))
Not directly but change was hinted at a few times.
Are you adaptable to change, the bethel brother asked? Do we follow the direction of the slave whatever it takes?
Definately preparing for changes.
2 were baptized - lowest in years.
I am just glad the English did not win it. We would never have heard the end of it.
In the British press they are still going on about the disallowed try.
In the end the best team won.

But I think I would have been huckled out the door.
Its amazing - she is a lovely lass but her meeting attendance is poor, yet she was still approved for baptism!!
Also another talk mentioned how the media can affect our faith. He mentioned a few newspaper articles that apparently had mis-qouted the society.
It was noticable that he did not mention articles about the UN & the NGO status nor the child abuse case recently in London.
The speaker said this - "The media is an instrument of Satan. He manipulates. He distorts. He promulgates lie after lie through international media".
Many in the audience nodding there heads in approval. Oh dear.
The bethel speaker mentioned how many are simply leaving the organisation.(A remarkable admission)
Apparently those leaving have this attitude = "Your not going to tell me what to do anymore!"
They now reside in the "darkness" outside according to him.
A quick review of all the other main points -
(1) Buying a new mobile phone every 6 months is wrong and shows a lack of contentment.
(2) Higher education got battered again.
(3) Internet = danger.
(4) Pioneering is the best thing you can do.
(5) Their are no excuses to slow down spiritually.
(6) Someone who Swears in private is living a double life.

after the sunday culttower study is over, everyone will be expected to preach because the end is soooooooo close!.
[minimus i have added to the title so people can read yor correction.
otherwise i think people might just miss it.
No problem minimus.
I am actually saddened that it might not be true! Surely though the org need to think about changing the name of it from "public" talk. How many members of the public actually attend these talks.
Oh, hot news off the press - TMS and service meeting are being done away with! Society want the Bros and sisters to stay at home and watch telly. Yippee!!!!!

Hi everyone.
This all sounds abit crazy to me. We have just been told that Public talks are going down to 30 minutes. Now it is possible their has been a rethink on this.
A point that has been made is the new WT study is for members only so I can see why they could posibly ditch the public talks altogether. I was just about to start reducing mine to 30 minutes but not giving them at all sounds better. Its been harder in recent months to say much of what is in my outlines when I doubt its truthfullness now.
this apparent change to the "generation" is pretty major i think.. when we consider all of the changes in understanding (i mean flashes of light!.
the 1995 change extended this old system by detaching the generation from 1914.. then the may 2007 wt qfr detached the gathering of the anointed from 1935.. now the latest change detaches the generation from all mankind except the small group of anointed.. and because of the 1935 detachment this could run for quite sometime.. most r & f jws will embrace this with both hands.
for me that is my greatest concern - millions will not even stop to think that we only had a flash of light about.
I just wonder though, is their a tipping point, when so much has changed in the belief system that significant doubt starts to filter throughout the org!!
I totally agree with the points regarding some JWs wont even notice and others had no real attachment to 1914 etc. But, as time goes by their must be a growing skeptacism developing.
I was talking to an elder last week, he said he asked the CO a few months back "Why has armageddon not arrived yet"? The CO said that due to the continual increase being seen in the ministry we are not quite at that point yet.
The interesting point - The elder openly disagreed with the CO, saying that for decades JWs have been on a knife edge, waiting for dramatic developments. People have made major sacrifices because of this, choosing not to have kids or not to pursue education etc. The elder "blamed" the wording of WT articles a a contributing part of the problem, convincing people that it was "around the corner" when obviously it was not. The elder seemed quite angry about the whole thing, he seemed tired of waiting.
I just wonder how many JWs feel like this inside but would never dare verbalise their thoughts?

You make some good points here. Especially regarding the non reporting of the partakers, I think that is really possible. 1914 is and always has been a key foundation stone of the JW belief system. But its significance seems to be fading rather than suddenly changed. I think if 1914 was just suddenly abandoned it would hit the org hard, and I think they know this.
Gradualism - this is the thinking behind these changes.
